xenophon endorses mayne

I was wondering if this would happen, and I’m glad it has! Stephen Mayne nominated for the Victorian Senate earlier today, and now it seems Senator Nick Xenophon has endorsed his campaign ahead of Chris Pyne.

Pyne, a Coalition frontbencher recently tried to use a statement made by Xenophon, referring to him as an “incredibly effective politician”, on an advertising billboard… but Xenophon said no to the idea.

Finally, things are getting a little interesting. Gillard, Abbott and co are still keeping very very quiet about any gambling reform policies they may, or may not, have… but now there’s a new player in town. Stephen Mayne, shareholder activist, former journalist, founder of crikey.com and current City of Manningham Councillor, has announced that he’s going to run as an Independent for a Victorian seat in the Senate. What’s more, he’ll be campaigning on an anti-pokies platform.

It’s about bloody time!

Shareholder activist, local government councillor, Crikey founder and former Liberal staffer Stephen Mayne turned 41 today and announced he is running as an independent candidate for the Senate in Victoria on a Nick Xenophon-style anti-pokies platform after the Rudd-Gillard government failed to act on sweeping Productivity Commission recommendations.
